So the Hales Family was all watching the rerecorded BYU game on Saturday morning. Nikolai seemed a little more interested in the crowd than the game but Steve was doing his best to indoctrinate him in the ways of cougar sports. At one point during a time out they cut to the crowd and showed two 3 or 4 year old boys dancing in the stands. Five or so minutes later we say to Nikolai:
"Nikels, some day you are going to play basketball at BYU and we are going to sit in the crowd and cheer for you and you're going to be so good!"
He looked back and said, "No! I wanna dance!!"
You can imagine the look on Steve's face. Hilarious!

Stretching the Truth and/or Making It Up
I think my oldest child has a vivid imagination. Yesterday after leaving a deli in Leesburg where Nikolai had eaten french fries and chicken wings, we called my sister Kate. The conversation went something like this:
K: Hi Nikolai, what did you have for lunch today?
N: Hmm, I had icecream and brownies and fruit snacks.
Then this morning Steve asked Nikolai what he did yesterday:
N: I went on the merry-go-round.
And finally, Kate asked him this morning what he had done earlier this morning (mind you he had been awake for a total of about 1 1/2 hours):
N: I went to the beach with Marianne and Noah.
Now, I can tell you that he has never had brownies and ice cream for lunch, he hasn't ridden any merry-go-rounds for at least a month, and he hasn't been to the beach since before Luke was born. So, right now I can laugh and blog about it. . . but I really hope that his vivid imaginings find more basis in truth the older he gets.

Dancin and Stuff
I saw this on my cousin in law Sara's blog and had to do one myself. So funny. . sorry to Noah and Max who are starring as women. . I realized just what it would look like after I'd done all the head work and since I didn't have any girls pics, they got to be in it anyway. Enjoy. :)
The Little Button
Luke has finally found his voice. He sounds more like a raptor than a little boy. Because of this new development, Nikolai has a new refrain. It goes something like this, "Mommy, turn baby Luke off!!!" This gets repeated over and over at increasingly high decibels until I finally stop what I'm doing and put in Baby Luke's pacifier :). One day when my attempts to hush the loud babbling weren't working Nikolai tried to help me out, "Mommy, push the little button." The little button is the off button on his cd player -- the big button turns it on. :) He's never asked me to push Baby Luke's big button.
Catch Up (visitors, visits and halloween)
Okay, so I've thought a lot about doing another post but when it comes time to do it, I think of the growing list of things I need to blog about and I decide to do it "tomorrow." So anyway, it's finally tomorrow and I'm going to post as much as I can before NIkolai gets out of time out :) and/or Luke decides he's hungry :).
Here is what has been going on in our lives:
1 )Baby Eva finally joined the fam. Isn't she beautiful!? I don't think either of my boys came out praying. . I think it must be a girl thing.

2) My mom came to help out with Baby Eva and we got to spend some time with her too :). One of Nikolai's favorite activities ever - visiting the fire station and he got to take a picture with a real fireman (that would be the second picture, not the first). He even wore his fireman pjs for the occasion.

3) Cait and Brig came to visit to see baby Eva and the boys. It was so much fun having them here and we wish they would move to this coast!! Here are a couple pics of Brig teaching Nikolai to play the guitar.

3) I got to go spend a week in California with my Dad. Here is a picture of him as world's best Poppa. It was so wonderful to get to talk to him about life, reminisce, and just spend time together.

4) Halloween. My fireman, my little pumpkin and the pumpkin cousins. Quote from Nikolai after eating the candy he got at the first house, "Trick or treat is very kinda yummy?" I think he would have prefered eating the candy right after you got it at each door.
