A liberal Supermajority and other end of the world scenarios :)

See article HERE.

My thoughts below:

I actually think having the government switch between Republican and Democratic leadership is a good thing – gets rid of party leaches and hopefully keeps the pendulum somewhere near the middle of the arc. However in this election, I think the backlash from the Bush administration's terrible leadership, coupled with the economic crisis, has opened the door to some scary possibilities for America. Fear seems to be propelling people into a willingness to give up personal choice (in many arenas) in lieu of what I consider false security - government provided of course. Just because Bush was a knucklehead doesn't mean conservative philosophies of small government and low taxes are bad. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water people. I hate end of the world scenarios but doesn't anyone else worry about what is about to be an extremely severe shift to the left? Let’s not forget that this election is not Obama vs Bush. It is Obama vs. McCain.

We all know that what government starts, never ends. Any big government Obama-led program that turns out to be a mistake (that will surely be pushed through if there is a supermajority in the House and Senate) will be paid for over and over again by our children and children’s children. Bad program, never fear, we’ll continue to pay for it anyway and our grandchildren and great grandchildren can argue about how to fix it (social security anyone?).

Also, I must put in my two cents about Obama's wealth redistribution plan labeled under the heading of "tax cuts." Actually, it is not a tax cut. It is a rebate. And for a large percentage of people it is a rebate of money they never paid into the system. So they are being rebated YOUR money and MY money without every having paid a dime to taxes. My husband Steve pointed out that just because you don’t make much, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pay into the system. It’s the principle of it. If you don’t pay for something, you don’t value it or respect it. It doesn’t mean we should gouge them, but they should pay something to the government rather than receiving a $500 handout. Some may be struggling financially, but our Armed Forces are still protecting their freedoms. More entitlement and government dependence are not the traits that made our nation great.

Our wealth would be redistributed according to Obama and Biden’s ideas of “fairness” and “patriotism.” So please Barack, don’t lie and couch welfare under the term “tax cuts,” misrepresenting one of the tenants of conservative thought as a checkbox on the liberal agenda.

14 days to go.

Mary, I LOVE your political posts. I couldn't agree with this one more. My dad keeps saying he thinks the best thing that could happen for this country is for Obama to get elected because then we'd realize how big of a mistake it was. However...the government programs we will pay for if he's elected is not a cheap price to pay just to uncover a mistake. Don't get me started on this popularity race where brains are being left at the door.

Mary, great post. You nailed it. My wife and I have been hot on the campaign trail. Sure wish we could be in DC with you right now. Actually we are thinking about coming out in December. We might need a place to stay? I think the main reason Obama will win is because he has wrapped McCain up with the Bush admin. People cannot seperate the two. McCain has not been able to escape this Bush blanket that has been put on him. I vote Steve Hales for Prez 2008!

Mary,
I am a big believer in "divided government," i.e., if the Republicans have the White House then I like the Democrats in control of Congress and vice versa. In California, when we had liberal Democrats in control of the Governorship and the Legislature, they nearly took us off a cliff and the Governor (Gray Davis) was recalled. That's how we got Arnold. We're probably headed for the cliff at the federal level with Obama/Pelosi/Reid. No ones there to apply the brakes. Welcome to the United Socialist States of America. Too bad. Love,
Dad

I'm glad that I popped over to check in on your family!! I've been wanting to do more research on the upcoming election, but haven't found the time yet. I enjoyed reading the articles you've included as well as your opinions. I've been wary for some time that Obama would win since most people seem fed up enough with the Bush administration that they will vote to simply change what's happening without any consideration to the repercussions.
Cute boys and great kitchen!!

mary, i couldn't agree more. matt and i had that same discussion the other night after the final debate. the other thing making me sick is the inundation of the media crowning obama as president and taking swipes at mccain and palin with every chance. blech. but i agree with you is the biggest danger is that we won't be able to reverse the damage that obama will do. ai yai yai

I love your political posts and the articles that you share are fantastic. I hope you don't mind but I linked this post on my blog. Is it bad that I want Obama to win and none of my reasons are for the good of this country? The thought of a Obama/Pelosi/Reid regimen is scary, scary, scary. I both anticipate and fear Wednesday, 11/5.
